Diane Marshall is a surface pattern designer and artist for interiors. She has had years of experience in the textile and pattern design field both in England and overseas and has now set up her own business. Colour or Color!

Focusing on report writing at college. It is important to write the report in the right language so to speak and the correct style. The right approach will enable the report to be composed in a professional manner and be effective towards its target audience.

In the same way as planning a report I find it helpful in working to an action plan and timetable so I can progress in realistic stages to complete a project.

Ouseburn Open Studios

The Ouseburn Open Studios allows you to see behind the scenes and visit artists in their studios. Running over the w/end, 26th & 27th Nov it includes various venues including the Biscuit factory, BiscuitTin studios, Cobalt, Foundry lane studios, 36 Lime st, Mushroom works & Northern print. www.ouseburnopenstudios.org

I was inspired by artists and printmintmakers at the Biscuit factory and an artist at the HolyBiscuit (Biscuit factorys sister venue), who created Sumi-e type paintings, which is a chinese technique to create dramatic and bold black wash paintings achieved by one brush stroke.
I was able to create my own gift tags at northern print, where they also run classes and workshops on different types of printing including Woodblock, Collagraph and Screenprinting. 

Being creative

Decided to get the paints out and try a bit of stencilling. Simple but effective patterns can be created using doillies to paint through. Or designs can be composed and cut out with a craft knife to create your own unique patterns.
