As well as the design itself consideration has to be taken of the product or item on which the pattern is to be placed. This has to be in proportion and scale so that it enhances and adds value to the product. Some patterns may be too overpowering and too large a scale for smaller items and it is crucial work with all elements so that the overall design is refective of the tone you want to achieve.
The placing of the elements and repeat of the pattern in the design can have an effect on the visual appearance and this can reflect on the consumer audience to which it is aimed for sales of the product.
